Serving the Military Community
I would like to thank all the men and women in our armed services whom have so unselfishly volunteered to serve our great nation. Having served over 23 years and retiring from Shaw AFB I personally know the sacrifice and dedication that it takes. So, to all military members out there if you need an agent who has been in your shoes and knows about relocation issues inside and out then look no further. It's time some one gave back to you. After all, isn't that what a good agent should do.
Shaw AFB is an important part of Sumter. With an average of 6,000 active duty airmen and 1400 civilians Shaw is vital to the local economy. Statistics show that 33% of the money spent annually in Sumter is directly related to the $852 million dollars that Shaw generates annually.
According to recent statistics approximately 18,000 military veterans live in the area. This is mainly due to Sumter's ideal location. Centrally located, Sumter is just a short drive from interstates 20, 26, 95 and 77. Sumter is also just a couple hours from Myrtle Beach, Savannah Georgia, Charleston, the ocean and the mountains.
A Buyers Market
There is still a lot of uncertainty in the housing market due to an unstable stock market and the election of a new president. There is an over abundance of homes on the market which is affecting both resale and new construction units. What does this mean for you, the consumer. It means that there are some really good deals out there. Potential buyers shouldn't wait. Mortgage rates are below 5% and there are plenty of lenders with money to lend even if you don't have "perfect" credit. The time to buy is now. If you are looking for Sumter real estate and homes for sale, please feel free to contact me and I will gladley guide you in this buyers market. Also see my property listings to view featured homes for sale in the area.
For the year ended 2008 home sales in Sumter were below 2007 levels. There were 1834 units closed in 2007 compared to 1355 units closed in 2008. This was a 7.4% decrease. We are expecting to see an upswing in 2009 due to low interest rates and some great buyer incentives out there. We are hoping to see these changes sooner rather than later but it will probably be after the middle of the year before we see housing prices start rising again.
Good School System & An Abundance Of Local Activities
Sumter has two public school districts and and a number of private schools. For continuing education there is the University of SC Sumter, Central Carolina Technical College and Morris College.
Whether your looking for quiet solitude or fun with family and friends Sumter has it all. There's numerous golf courses, the Sumter Aquatic Center; a public facility with a competition sized pool, several wonderful parks and tracks, nearby lakes Marion and Moultrie, with some of the best fishing in the world and the Palmetto Tennis Center which has 18 courts that are free to the public. There is also Swan Lake Iris Gardens which is believed to be the only place in the world where visitors can see all 8 species of Swans.
